CREDO Reference is a database of quality reference titles from reputable publishing houses.  CREDO allows the researcher at GRCC have access to some of the best reference tools - from whatever location one is working online!  Logon to CREDO Reference using the Library's Databases - Reference & Multidisciplinary - CREDO Reference link.  If you are off-campus or using wireless, you will be asked to enter your last name and Raider # without the W.  Then .... search away!

Raider Rally was a fun event where students could find out more about a variety of services provided by GRCC to support student success.  Librarians Sophia Brewer and Nan Schichtel provided library information, answered questions from students and parents, and welcomed students to campus and the library.

Global Issues in Context  offers news and perspectives on issues and events of international importance and provides background information on them, placing them in context. It offers students the ability to develop the framework to better understand 21st-century issues, helping them think critically about global connections and the interdependence of all nations.

Career Transitions employs a  step-by-step approach to help people inventory interests; construct a resume;   identify jobs; and improve interview skills.

GREENR (Global Reference on the Environment, Energy, and Natural Resources) provides reference content in the area of the environment, energy and natural resources. From global warming, to food  safety, to access to health care, to the impact of economic development  on international relations, today's important environmental issues are  shaping the future and reach far beyond the United States.  GREENR focuses on the academic study of sustainability and the environment.   Both interactive and current, GREENR allows users to navigate issue, organization and country portals. A  one-stop site, this resource provides news, background information,  video, unique commentaries, primary source documents and statistics in  highly accessible, visually appealing research areas, covering relevant  categories including energy systems, healthcare, food, climate change,  population, economic development. One of the things that makes GREENR so user-friendly, is it does not look like the typical database  product. Researchers view content in a way that resembles the open web,  allowing them to browse to find answers as well as entering search  terms.

The LLC is closed 9/5-9/7 for the Holiday weekend.

PsycARTICLES is a database of full-text articles from journals published by the American Psychological Association, the APA Educational Publishing Foundation, the Canadian Psychological Association, and Hogrefe & Huber.  The database includes all material from the print journals.  Most of the 72 APA journals included in PsycARTICLES now go back to volume 1, issue 1.

Michigan Electronic Library's Swine Flu Gateway  provides current public service information on the facts surrounding swine flu cases in Michigan and the United States - who is at risk, history of pandemics, and how to prevent the spread of this virus. This includes a link to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) website. 

DynaMed’s Swine Influenza  consolidates information from multiple sources for health care providers to stay current with recommendations for monitoring, diagnosing, and treating patients with flu-like illnesses during this outbreak.

GRCC's librarians answer LOTS of questions about formatting and bibliographies at this time of the semester.  If you need guidance on how to format your research paper and cite resources using commonly accepted styles, take a look at the WRITING section of the LLC's Internet Resource page.

Among great links on that page is KnightCite, an online citation generator service provided by Calvin College. "This service simplifies the often tedious task of compiling an accurate bibliography in the appropriate style by formatting the given data on a source into a reliable citation, eliminating the need to memorize minute details of style for multiple kinds of sources. The service is provided free of charge by the college, and is available to members both within and outside of the Calvin community." Many of GRCC's databases provide formatted citations along with full-text article, but if I forget to save citations while doing my research or if the database I'm using doesn't provide formatted citations, I usually choose to use KnightCite.
